Our Alliance with the University of Vermont

Every day, in myriad ways, the academic medical center formed by the alliance of Fletcher Allen Health Care and the University of Vermont College of Medicine and College of Nursing and Health Sciences helps to improve our region’s quality of life by providing patients with the latest innovations in medicine and health care, by generating new knowledge about disease and wellness, and by educating the next generation of health care professionals and scientists—all while functioning as a major driver for the economy of Vermont and northern New York.

The nation’s 125 academic medical centers are the backbone of innovation in American health care. Physicians, nurses, and other health professionals training at academic medical centers work with the latest therapies, treatments, and techniques, and are taught by some of the world’s leading experts in their fields.

The University of Vermont and Fletcher Allen Health Care are inextricably linked, serving as Vermont’s academic medical center. College of Medicine clinical faculty provide patient care at Fletcher Allen in addition to their roles as researchers and educators. Their medical research, in turn, ensures that patients at Fletcher Allen or one of its 35 patient care sites in the region benefit from breakthrough discoveries and clinical trials. The College of Nursing and Health Sciences also partners with Fletcher Allen to educate students in clinical areas from laboratory science to nuclear medicine to labor and delivery and to research a health care issues such as worksite wellness and end of life care.
